Nerve pain
Lloyd Cosgrove is a Bowen therapist in Granville. He has other qualifications in the natural health-care field too. In the past he was regularly flown to Sydney to work on A-grade footballers. Bowen therapy has treatment for chronic fatigue. Lloyd is at 166 Cambridge Street, Granville, and can be reached on 0438 789 830. Lloyd gave a print-out of this information below to Judy.

Eliminate Nerve Pain Naturally
Nerve pain (called neuropathic pain), is one of the more difficult and uncomfortable types of pain. Whether the pain comes from diabetes, shingles, fibromyalgia, chemotherapy, or a host of other causes, this searing, burning, electric shock kind of pain can leave you miserable. Unfortunately, most physicians are still not trained in treating nerve pain, and give anti-inflammatory medications like Motrin (which are not effective and kill over 16,500 Americans unnecessarily each year) or narcotics, which are modestly effective.
The good news is that nerve pain is very treatable. Many studies have shown that using nutritional support with lipoic acid 300 mg 2x day, Acetyl-L-Carnitine 2,000 mg a day, Inositol (500-1,000 mg a day), and vitamins B6 (50-100 mg a day) and B12 (500-5,000 mcg a day—both B vitamins and Inositol are in the Energy Revitalization System vitamin powder) can actually help heal the nerves and decrease or eliminate the pain. Nerves take time to heal, so natural remedies need to be taken for three to twelve months. In the interim, holistic pharmacies can make powerful creams combining multiple medications effective against nerve pain (available by prescription from ITC Pharmacy at 303-663-4224; called the nerve pain gel). These are rubbed over the painful areas, and can be very effective after 1-2 weeks of use. Being rubbed on the skin though, the total dose to the rest of your body is very low, making it largely side effect free! Other medications can also be very effective.
These supplements are available from Costigan's Pharmacy.
All these supplements are in K-Pax Immune which is available from prohealth.com.

Here is the founder Jordan Rubin's story:
http://makersdiet.com/about.php
Book - Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - It's mitochondria, not hypochondria, by Dr Myhill
Anaree has purchased and is reading this book and is learning more about the illness. Most of what is in the book is also on Dr Myhill's website:
http://www.drmyhill.co.uk/
For instance, Anaree's three day post-exertional malaise has improved since taking small amounts of d-ribose around six times per day. Anaree purchases d-ribose from either iherb.com or prohealth.com.
Low body temperature
Most people with chronic fatigue have an under-active thyroid. A good way to check is to take your temperature each morning first thing as soon as you wake up. See this web page from Dr Myhill.
http://www.drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/Hypothyroidism_-_diagnosis_of
Having a low body temperature means many of your body's processes just won't work as they need the body to be at 36.5 degrees to function properly. For example, enzymes don't create or work properly with low body temperature. No wonder we are sick!
If you wish to warm up your body a suggestion is to have warm/hot water, perhaps with a squeeze of lemon or lime in it (plus d-ribose if you take it) - first thing in the morning.
Fibromyalgia muscle pain is lactic acid burn
Most of the pain associated with fibromyalgia is due to lactic acid build up in the body. Due to our chronically fatigued condition we are unable to process lactic acid like a normal person. It is essential to find out and eliminate the foods that contribute to the build up of lactic acid in your body. Cane sugar is the worst offender.
See these web pages.

Essential supplements
Our illness is a mitochondrial disease. We are unable to generate d-ribose like a normal person. D-ribose is a naturally occurring sugar in our body. The story is the same with Co Enzyme Q10. We need to take both of these as supplements. Selenium is also vitally important. Please see these links.

Other interesting bits and pieces
Do you have problems sleeping?
Grated nutmeg is good for assisting with sleep. Take half a teaspoon (no more) before bed. Take it any way you like but in half a glass of any kind of milk tastes good. The sedative effect lasts only around four hours so it may be a good idea to have another nutmeg and milk drink made up and in the fridge in case you need it during the night. It is best to buy whole nutmeg and grate it yourself - available from supermarkets in the spice section.
Butter
If you like soft butter but don't want to buy chemical-laden or canola-laden product from the supermarket you can make your own! Half a pound of butter (250 grams) with 5 tablespoons olive or macadamia oil. Leave the butter out of the fridge until it softens then beat with an electric mixer. Gradually add oil. Place in container and keep in fridge.
Judy has a couple of fabulous recipes this month!
